How to mark menu items as sold out or hidden

Running out of an ingredient? Need to temporarily remove a seasonal item? Menubly lets you mark menu items as sold out or hidden so customers always see accurate availability.

Update an item's status

  1. Log into your Menubly account

  2. Click on "Menus" in the top navigation menu

  3. Select the menu you want to edit

  4. Click on the item you want to update

  5. Find the "Status" dropdown on the right side

  6. Select the status you want: Active, Sold out, or Hidden

  7. Click "Save and Close

Status

What customers see

When to use

Active

Item appears normally on menu

Default status - item is available to order

Sold out

Item shows "Sold out" label, can't be ordered

Temporarily unavailable (ran out of ingredients, etc.)

Hidden

Item doesn't appear on menu at all

Seasonal items, discontinued items, or items not yet ready to launch

When to use sold out vs hidden

Use "Sold out" when:

  • You've temporarily run out of an item

  • You want customers to know the item exists but isn't available right now

  • You plan to bring it back soon

Use "Hidden" when:

  • It's a seasonal item (e.g., pumpkin spice latte in summer)

  • You're testing a new item before launching

  • The item is discontinued but you might bring it back

  • The item is only available on certain days

Changes appear instantly

After you click "Save and Close", the change appears on your online menu within 10 seconds. No need to republish or regenerate your QR code - customers will see the updated availability right away.
